Manchester United’s interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes charge of his new team for the first time against a club he knows well.
Solskjaer was in charge at Cardiff for eight months after being appointed in January 2014 and won just three of his 18 Premier League matches in charge, which resulted in Cardiff finishing bottom of the league, and was sacked just eight games into the next season after two home Championship defeats against Norwich and Middlesborugh.
The fixture list has seemingly been kind to Solskjaer, with Manchester United playing teams in the bottom half of the table in eight of their next nine league matches, starting against Cardiff this weekend.
Neil Warnock’s side have won four of their lost five matches at home and are now out of the relegation zone, despite having picked up just one point on their travels.
Cardiff’s four home wins have come against Fulham, Brighton, Wolves and Southampton, while three of their four home defeats have come by just a single goal, including a 3-2 loss to Arsenal.
Only Manchester City have beaten Cardiff at the Cardiff City Stadium by more than one goal so a wide-margin Manchester United victory seems unlikely.
Solskjaer’s first team selection will make for interesting reading and it is highly likely that his first move will be to promote Paul Pogba back into the starting line-up. Pogba has not started the last three league matches, with Jose Mourinho dropping him for the matches against Arsenal, Fulham and Liverpool.
Pogba will view this match as a chance to show the world his talent and is priced at 8/1 to score the first goal, which could prove attractive given he is an almost certain starter.
After Mourinho’s departure, the 8/13 about a Manchester United win will prove popular in accumulators, but it might be best to focus on the margin of victory. Manchester United to win by one goal is a 5/2 chance and United to win by two goals is a 7/2 chance and both thos prices make significant appeal
